Comparison. Tedcohnia gen. nov. is similar to Pterodichopetala mainly due to its elongated tegmina, which are longer than the head and pronotum combined. However, the new genus differs from Pterodichopetala in several morphological aspects. The Pterodichopetala pronotal disc is flat with straight, well-defined lateral margins. In contrast, Tedcohnia gen. nov. exhibits a pronotum more typical of most genera within the tribe, with the pronotal disc slightly constricted medially in dorsal view and slightly arched in transverse section. Regarding the tegmina, Pterodichopetala has elongate tegmina that cover the abdomen; the costal margin is curved towards the apex, the anal margin is nearly straight, and both margins converge to form an almost pointed apex ( Fig. 15I ). In Tedcohnia gen. nov. , the tegmina are ovoid, and the apex is not tapered. Both the costal and anal margins are curved ( Fig. 15B ), and the A1 vein or stridulatory file tends to be longer and extends closer to the anal margin compared to Pterodichopetala . There are also marked differences in the male terminalia between the two genera. In Pterodichopetala , the last abdominal segment is prolonged, reaching or exceeding half the length of the cerci ( Fig. 15J ). In contrast, Tedcohnia gen. nov. , this segment is not significantly extended and may appear truncated or bear small lateral lobes on the posterior margin ( Fig. 15C ). The male cerci in Pterodichopetala bear two distinct branches, with the basal or inner branch shorter than the outer one ( Figs. 15K–L ). Tedcohnia gen. nov. , cerci exhibit three well-defined projections: the basal projection is longer than the distal ones, and the dorsal projection is wider than the basal one and divided into two lobes ( Figs. 15D–E ). The male genitalia also present key differences between the two genera. Pterodichopetala titillators sclerite (TS) consist of two plates strongly fused medially, with short basal fingers and narrow posterior edges, each bearing rows of small teeth ( Figs. 15N–O ). In contrast, Tedcohnia gen. nov. , the TS are either gently joined or separated medially, with long basal fingers and posterior margins forming two elevated, denticulate folds ( Figs. 15G–H ). Tedcohnia gen. nov. is also morphologically similar to Acanthorintes in terms of internal genitalia, as both genera have a denticulate posterior margin and basal elevations resembling fingers. However, Acanthorintes differs by having notably elongated fingers and only a small denticulate section on the posterior margin, whereas Tedcohnia gen. nov. has the entire posterior margin denticulate. Regarding external morphology, the two genera are easily distinguished: Acanthorintes has short wings that do not fully cover the second abdominal segment, cheliform cerci, and a conspicuously modified epiproct.
Counts are recordings at or below each taxon, so an empty branch shows as empty before you click it. A dash means the join view holds no column for that rank and cannot roll up to it.
The rows audioBlast holds for this taxon, each matched to the same Catalogue of Life node. Where a source classifies it differently, its own classification is kept.
