The calling song consists of a long sequence of echemes, each usually 2.0-3.5 s, composed of about 35-55 macrosyllables and normally ending with 2-6 microsyllables. The echemes do not vary greatlyt in duration within one song and are usually separated by intervals of about 5-15 s. Oscillogrpahic analysis of the song of the single male studied (in complete darkness at an air temperature of 25°C showed that quiet openinghemisyllables were present in both macro- and microsyllables. The closing macrosyllables lasted about 50-60 ms and were repeated at the rate of 22-25/s. The microsyllable sequence at the end of an echeme seldom lasted more than 0.2 s. The echemes began quietly, reaching maximum intensity by the third or fourth syllable.
