Diagnosis. Females of H . gracilis are most similar to the females of the Chinese species Hygropoda campanulata Zhang, Zhu & Song, 2004 as both share small bell-shaped anterior epigynal cavity [mislabeled as ‘hood’ in Zhang et al. (2004) ], broad lateral lobes, W-shaped posterior margin, and short and longitudinal copulatory ducts. However, they can be separated from the latter species by the lateral lobes extending ⅔ rd of median epigynal field ( vs . ½ th in H . campanulata ), a longitudinally oriented base of spermatheca ( vs . horizontal in H . campanulata ), and L-shaped fertilization ducts originating from the base of spermatheca ( vs . comma-shaped and originating from the head of spermatheca in H . campanulata ) (cf. Figs 36 , 43–47 and Zhang et al. 2004 : figs 75–76).

Remarks. The ZMUC collection currently has two syntypes of this species, both are very fragile and bleached. One is a juvenile female. The other is an adult female with intact epigyne ( Figs 35–36 ) (N. Scharff, pers. comm.). Jäger (2011) mentioned that the syntypes of D . gracilis were subadult and juvenile females. However, many species of Hygropoda have simple epigyne with an anterior epigynal cavity and lateral epigynal lobes as seen in H . argentata Zhang, Zhu & Song, 2004 , H . campanulata and H . taeniata Wang, 1993 ( Zhang et al. 2004 : figs 72, 74, 90). Hygropoda gracilis also has a similarly simple epigyne ( Fig. 36 ). Additionally, the developed spermathecae are evident through the transparent epigynal plate of the female syntype ( Fig. 36 ). All these suggest that the specimen mentioned by Jäger (2011) as subadult is in fact an adult female as mentioned by Thorell (1891) .
Counts are recordings at or below each taxon, so an empty branch shows as empty before you click it. A dash means the join view holds no column for that rank and cannot roll up to it.
The rows audioBlast holds for this taxon, each matched to the same Catalogue of Life node. Where a source classifies it differently, its own classification is kept.
