The males stridulate freely with their mandibles when they meet others of their kind. The sounds are audible from about 50cm and are accompanied by vigorous twitching movements of the antennae, palps and hind femora. For mating, the male approaches the female in jerks, but cautiously, making gradually quieter mandible-sounds.
