Diagnosis. Female of this species is similar to B. hui Song et al. , 2004 and B. ovtsharenkoi Marusik et al ., 2014 . From the former species it differs by the shape of anterior edge of fovea and by broader outgrowths of lateral pockets ( Op ) (cf. Figs 2, 4 and figs 46‒48 in Marusik et al. 2014a ). From B. hui it can be separated by the stronger sclerotized lateral margins of atrium and by the elongate outgrowths of lateral pockets (cf. with figs 17‒18 in Marusik et al . 2014a ). The male of B. koponeni differs from those of other species by the long median apophysis and thin and straight embolus. Both sexes of B. koponeni differ from all congeners by the contrasting dorsal pattern of abdomen, consisting of three dark longitudinal stripes connected by chevrons on a light background lacking in other Berlandina species ( Fig. 1 and fig 37 in Marusik et al. 2014a ).
