Remarks. Lehtinen (1967) designated the East African Agelena bornemiszai Caporiacco, 1947 as the type species of Benoitia when he described the genus and transferred three additional African species to it (i.e., A. raymondeae Lessert, 1915 ; A. rhodesiae Pocock, 1901 ; A. upembana Roewer, 1955 ). He diagnosed the genus in his tabulated comparison of the characteristics of Agelenini genera. Subsequently, Levy (1996) provided a textual diagnosis of Benoitia , comparing it with Agelena , and transferred two additional species from North Africa and the Middle East (i.e., A. lepida O. Pickard-Cambridge, 1876 and A. timida (Audouin, 1826)) and two from southern Africa (i.e., A. deserticola Simon, 1910 and A. ocellata Pocock, 1900 ) to the genus. Although he illustrated the male and female syntypes of B. ocellata , no figures were presented for B. deserticola , despite him examining the syntypes . The species is illustrated here for the first time and transferred to Afrotrix gen. nov. (see A. deserticola comb. nov. above). The identity of B. rhodesiae remains unclear, as it has never been illustrated. Two Palaearctic species were later transferred to Benoitia ( Song et al. 1999 ; Zamani & Marusik 2020 ), bringing the total number of species in the genus to 10. Here, we describe five additional new species.
